Commissioner, District 2
Amy Lathen, Third Member

Born in Denver in 1967, Amy settled in Colorado Springs with her family in 1984 after living for 14 years in a small farming community in Nebraska.  After graduating from Rampart High School, Amy enrolled in college at UCCS and earned her BA in Psychology in 1992.  Amy is married to Bob and has three children.  Together, she and her family enjoy camping, fishing and many other outdoor activities.  Amy also enjoys recreational shooting and hopes to become an NRA certified instructor in order to help others become more comfortable  and empowered through responsible firearm use.

Amy went to work for The Elevation Group in January, 2005.  This company serves non-profit organizations all around the United States and Amy was instrumental in working with senior consultants and client services on everything from marketing to grant writing as well as handling all of the administration of the office.

Amy made her debut politically in the year 2000.  While the nation was divided as to who should be our next president, Amy worked hard on behalf of George Bush's campaign.  Amy's signature hard work and dedication paid off; George Bush was President and Amy had made an impression.  In 2001, she was elected as a bonus member to the El Paso County Republican Party Executive Committee, an office she holds to this day.

Amy has served the Party and community in many ways over the years including chairing the Lincoln Day Dinner and auction, being co-chair for Governor Bill Owens' re-election campaign, phone bank manager for the re-election of Senator Wayne Allard, Regional Director for Bush/Cheney 2004, auction chair for the Life Network Gala, 3 year President of the Cheyenne Mountain Republican Forum, Vice-President of the Leadership Program of the Rockies, Class of 2007 (an intensive program of Constitutional, free market, capitalism and Founders' studies), panel member of the Pikes Peak Firearms Coalition Political Action Committee and past Vice-Chair of the Citizen Outreach Group of El Paso County.

Additionally, in 2003, John Newsome selected Amy to manage his underdog campaign for District Attorney.  Through intense hard work and dedication, Amy's leadership skills and integrity, combined with Mr. Newsome's experience and expertise persevered through long odds, culminating in an overwhelmingly successful Election Day.

For these efforts and so many more, Amy was awarded the "Republican Volunteer of the Year" Award for 2003.

In 2004, Governor Bill Owens appointed Amy to the 4th Judicial Nomination Commission, a commission on which she still serves and which reviews and selects judicial applicants for presentation to the Governor.

It wasn't long before family and friends began urging her to do more.  Amy noticed a pattern emerging as far back as 2004.  "You should run for County Commissioner", they would urge, "this county needs you".  As more and more people brought up the subject, Amy began to give it more thought. Amy watched the level of representation her district was receiving, and was concerned that her district's voice was being lost.  Believing that her wealth of experience, proven effectiveness and strong, conservative leadership skills made her the best person for the job, Amy began studying El Paso County issues tirelessly and filed paperwork on March 30th, 2007 to become a candidate for County Commissioner District 2.

Believing in strong public safety, responsible and intelligent growth and the importance of respectful public representation, Amy was elected in January of 2008 to serve the residents of District 2.  Her desire to be there for her constituents and to serve them with conviction, strength and respect drive her to excel each day.
