Wayne Williams

Wayne Williams was first elected to the Board of County Commissioners in November of 2002 and reelected in 2006 with 74% of the vote. Wayne‘s current term expires in January of 2011. During Wayne's time on the Board of County Commissioners, he has worked to expand our area's transportation systems. He played a key role in obtaining funding for COSMIX and Fort Carson’s I-25/Hwy16 Interchange, and approval of the Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority (PPRTA).
Wayne serves or has served as Chairman or 1st Vice Chairman of the Pikes Peak Area Council of Governments which sets transportation priorities and allocates transportation funding throughout El Paso, Teller, and Park Counties, as well as provides military impact planning and program funding for older citizens. He also serves or has served as the Chairman of the PPRTA and President of the Baptist Road Rural Transportation Authority. Since 2005, Wayne has served as the region's representative to Colorado's State Transportation Advisory Committee. Wayne is currently a member of the Transportation Steering Committee for the National Association of Counties and chairs the Transportation and Telecommunications Steering Committee of Colorado Counties Inc.
Commissioner Williams serves as liaison to the Clerk and Recorder, Sheriff, and the Judiciary. He also serves as the Board’s representative to the Pikes Peak Library District, Justice Advisory Council, and various transportation groups. During his time on the Board of County Commissioners, Wayne has worked to increase citizen involvement through fair elections, open meetings, and expanding the resources available on the County's web pages. He has testified at the State Legislature with respect to elections, citizenship, and transportation, among other items.
Prior to and, in many cases, after his election, Wayne served in various positions within the community, including Chairman of the Colorado Springs Housing Authority, Boy Scout Troop Committee Chairman, and member of the Board of Directors of the Pikes Peak Community Action Agency. He is an active member of the Colorado Springs 13th Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Politically, Wayne Williams is a long-time conservative Republican activist, and is a past Chairman of the El Paso County Republican Party. Wayne also has served on the Colorado Republican Party Executive Committee and as the El Paso Co-Chair of the election campaigns for Governor Bill Owens, President George W. Bush, and in 2008 for Governor Mitt Romney and now Senator John McCain.
In addition to his service on the Board, Wayne has operated a local small business since 1998 in which he has an active legal practice focusing on labor and employment law matters. Wayne also teaches employment law seminars locally and throughout the nation. Two Colorado legislatures selected Wayne to serve as one of Colorado's six representatives to the National Conference of Commissioners of Uniform State Laws.
Wayne has been married to his wife Holly for more than 20 years. Wayne and Holly live in Briargate and have four children. Their oldest child is an honors graduate of the University of Colorado while the other three children attend Rampart High School and Mountain Ridge Middle School.
